Very large Thai Suphannahong Royal Barge Brass Candle Holder, 9 Candles, 72cm long.
Beautiful golden candle holder in the shape of a Thai Royal Barge - fronted with the Hong bird at its bow. The Royal Barge Suphannahong loosely translates as 'Golden Swan' or 'Phoenix'. This barge was given world maritime heritage status in 1992 and is a stunning sight which can be seen on Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. It is manned by a crew of 66, including 50 oarsmen.
This is an unusually large candle holder holding 9 candles - 9 is considered the luckiest number in Thailand. Odd numbers are considered luckier than even numbers, and 9 is also the product of 3 x 3. The Thai word for nine - Gao - also sounds like the Thai word for progress and the word for rice, the Thai staple food, so it is particularly auspicious.
Dimensions - approx 72cm long x 36cm high x 9cm wide.
