Around 20 years ago the Thais began to train elephants to paint. The results surpassed all expectations as the younger elephants took to painting with enthusiasm.
The elephants genuinely love to paint and some of them appear to have real talent. The painting you see here has been genuinely painted by an elephant trained to handle paintbrushes.
Elephant conservation centres in Thailand now use elephant art as a means of helping to support their work in Thailand and the paintings here have been purchased directly from such centres.
